England boss Gareth Southgate has released his 23-man squad to play in Russia
• Among United players, only Chris Smalling is missing
Phil Jones, Marcus Rashford, Ashley Young, and Jesse Lingard have all made the England squad for the Russian World Cup, set to start next month. Chris Smalling is absent both from the main list and the standby squad:
United players in the squad have shown an incredible level of hard work and won their places, something that seemed bizarre at the season's start if Ashley Young's and Jesse Lingard's cases are looked into. In fact, there are only five players in Southgate's 23-man squad from the 23 picked by Roy Hodgson back in 2014. It is only Phil Jones from United squad.
England will play Tunisia, Panama, and Belgium in three different Russian cities with the competition kicking off on June 18 for Three Lions. The last time at the World Cup, England failed to deliver as they could not make it past the group stage that consisted of Uruguay, Costa-Rica, and Italy. The following European championship was not much better as England were knocked out by minnows Iceland in play-offs.
All deserved? Best selection?
