While speaking in an exclusive interview with Sky Sport 24, former Real Madrid coach, Fabio Capello, claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo wants to return to Manchester United to reunite with Jose Mourinho.

According to Dailymail UK, Zinedine Zidane, who departed Madrid on Thursday after two-and-a-half years at the helm, is understood to have wanted to explore the option of swapping Ronaldo for Paris Saint-Germain star, Neymar after his comments, but the boardroom powerbrokers disagreed, something that may have fuelled his decision to quit.

Capello in the interview believes the 33-year-old Ronaldo has only got his heart set on joining one club.

He said; 'Cristiano wants to return to Manchester United alongside Mourinho. I think he will eventually leave Madrid to go back to England. When? This I don't know.'

Ronaldo established a strong rapport with his countryman, Mourinho during his spell with Madrid, and Capello clearly feels that could be enough to convince Ronaldo to return to his former club.

Meanwhile, United executive vice chairman, Ed Woodward has been desperate to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner ever since taking over the club's transfer strategy five years ago.

Ronaldo has previously flirted with the idea of returning to United and his mother recently admitted she would prefer him to return to England than join PSG's star-studded squad.

She said; 'I like Paris. I come every now and again. The last time was when my son received the Ballon d'Or. It was a great honour. When I arrived I was treated well by everyone.

'Convince Cristiano to sign for PSG? To be honest, it wouldn't annoy me, but I would prefer him to return to Manchester United.'
